When we chronicle RRPS, the 2007 GRADUATION will be remembered that Mr. Duncan, Mr. VonAncken, Lisa Cour, Dr. Sue Cleveland, Mayor Jackson and the Observer played the starring roles.
The great thing is there is a growing “paper trail” to confirm the horrible down and dirty comments all in the newspaper.
WE were ridiculed for not having our facts right and for voicing legitimate concerns. Yet, every time you read or hear the news, their story changes or their facts are wrong.
What happened to our
FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS,
CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS,
DEMOCRACY
and ALL
that AMERICA stands for?
Aren’t these the very things our SOLDIERS are at WAR for right this second?
How can you all just DISMISS these critical points?

"I understand the chaos of organizing a high school graduation and inevitably someone is going to be less than happy about the result.

But to callously disregard the plans and wishes of multiple family members goes beyond any kind of administrative SNAFU.

Gradution ceremonies are ultimately about the achievements of the students and an opportunity for loved ones to celebrate those achievements.

For Rio Rancho to dismiss the concerns and outrage of family members is to disregard the spirit of the ceremony.

Isn't it obvious?

Do the right thing."

The president of the school board is a real witch!
She has NO respect for parents or the students.
We must make it a point to let everyone know what a joke this is.
It is a “gool ol'” boy network at RRPS.
They are all stuck on themselves.

I wanted to take this time to write everyone that was involved in this matter. I won’t be able to explain myself very well. I will just put down what is on my mind. Our family’s problem will be deciding who gets to go and who doesn’t. Ok, we all know this comes with the territory because of what has happened but the reality is, this is tough. Our son won’t be able to go if his grandfather goes. My dad won’t be able to go if his grandson goes. If you think this is an easy decision to make, it really is not. We are torn up over this choice. This really hurts…

DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE WHO GETS TO GO AND WHO GETS TO STAY HOME.

IT'S OUR GRADUATION.

“Everyone has already heard the arguments for and against returning the graduation ceremony to The Pit so there’s no reason to spend a lot of time rehashing what’s already been said. The only issue left to be decided is what most of the parents want to do. We believe that most of the parents want the ceremony to be held in The Pit. So our only request is that you authorize a vote so that we can see what the parents want. If most of them want to hold the ceremony at the Star Center, then we should hold it at the Star Center; if most of the parents want to return to the Pit, then that’s what we should do. If you feel you can’t authorize a vote, then the only fair decision is to return the ceremony to The Pit given that the decision was made without sufficient public input.

Further, the decision to move the ceremony to the Star Center disproportionately inconveniences larger families, many of whom happen to be Hispanic.”

PLEASE REMEMBER, THE PRESIDENT OF THE SCHOOL BOARD WAS APPROACHED BY A CONCERNED PARENT ASKING WHY THIS DECISION WAS MADE WITHOUT FAIR INVOLVEMENT FROM THE STUDENTS, AND PARENTS ALIKE.

“HER ANSWER WAS LESS THAN CORDIAL AND SHE STATED THAT SHE MADE THE DECISION WITHOUT CONSULTING ANYONE BECAUSE SHE HAD THE AUTHORITY TO DO SO!”

NOT ONLY DO I FIND THIS HORRIBLY OFFENSIVE, BUT ALSO IT IS NOT EXACTLY CORRECT.

THE PRESIDENT AND SCHOOL BOARD MUST UPHOLD CONSTITUTIONAL GUIDELINES OF THE SCHOOL AND THE UNITED STATES!

ALONG WITH THE AUTHORITY THAT WE AS VOTERS ENTRUSTED THEM WITH.

THIS DECISION DID NOT REPRESENT WHAT EVERYONE WANTED.

THAT CLEARLY HAS BEEN PROVEN.

I THINK WE NEED TO SERIOUSLY RECONSIDER JUST HOW MUCH AUTHORITY WE SHOULD ALLOW THEM TO HAVE.

I ASSURE YOU THIS ISSUE WILL HAUNT ALL OF THEM FOR THE REST OF THEIR SHORT-LIVED POLITICAL CAREERS.

RIO RANCHO PARENTS AND CITIZENS WILL NOT ALLOW THIS OBVIOUS ABUSE OF TRUST AND POWER TO GO ON UNQUESTIONED OR UNCHALLENGED.

OUR CHILDREN ARE VERY DEAR TO US!

THIS IS TO: Sue, Lisa, Richard, Kevin, Mike, Genie and Gary,

Sue apologized but it still fits her, where is her integrity?
Lisa, wanted all graduates and family to know "life is tough" but it's not our fault, we make all the "sire-level" decisions like it or not!
Richard, Kevin, Mike, Genie and Gary, this is you!

A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted a woman below. He descended a bit more and shouted,” Excuse me, can you help? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour
ago, but I don't know where I am."

The woman below replied, "You are in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You are between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude."

"You must be an engineer," said the balloonist.

"I am," replied the woman. "How did you know?"

"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of you, and the fact is I am still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help so far."

The woman below responded, "You must be in management."

"I am," replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?"

"Well," said the woman, "you don't know where you are or where you are going. You have risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise which you have no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fault!"

The seniors of the class of 2007 would like to acknowledge RRPS for:
Failing to listening to reason, for stressing us, for lying to us, for disregarding our celebration, for punishing us for something we did not do, for providing us with tacky announcements, for burdening our families with expenditures for travel, with discriminating against anyone with a large family, or large network, for telling us “the choice is yours”, but it never was, for a disrespectful board president, for a superintendent that claimed she knew all the reasons, but later after making things worse admitted to failing to know all the reasons, for a dishonest principal, for no help from the mayor, for making us have to choose who goes and who stays, for being dictators, for threatening families and students that spoke up, for telling us to get over it, for telling us life is hard get over it, for telling us we are greedy, for a BIG MESS!

Dr. Cleveland and RRPS,
I believe we have our accurate facts listed here numerous times. So, like an echo, Dr. Cleveland, “it is NOT why you imposed your decision, IT IS HOW you imposed your decision.” I understand you actually took the time to meet with some parents. We all are coming from different points of view but agree on the main issues. I have read the different emails being passed along and I for one need you to understand I fortunately have secured some extra tickets. BUT THERE ARE FOUR FAMILY MEMBERS IN FROM OUT OF TOWN THAT WON’T BE ABLE TO ATTEND AND IT WAS NOT EASY HUSLTING DOWN THE EXTRA ONES EITHER, IT WAS A PAIN. My family won’t have enough there are many more families that also won’t. I want you to know it was VERY difficult figuring who got to go and who didn’t. That is where I agree with the comments calling this matter discrimination. The only reason I was able to secure those tickets is because of all the parents that I know, I really feel for the families that need extra tickets and don’t know as many people that I do. This makes their task all the more difficult. I heard you apologized; I have a much better suggestion, let US VOTE.

EACH SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER IS SWORN IN BY A JUDGE AND THEIR OATH OF SERVICE MAINTAINS THEY MUST UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES AS WELL AS THE SCHOOL'S, ISN'T THIS A DIRECT VIOLATION OF "DUE PROCESS", FAIR PROCESS, OR ANY EQUAL AND "GOOD FAITH" STANDARDS THAT ADHERE TO OUR CONSTITUTION AND WHAT THEY WERE FOUNDED ON? I HAVE PERSONALLY HEARD THAT DR. CLEVELAND IS "FAIR" AND WE ARE ABSOLUTELY COUNTING ON THAT IN THIS MATTER.

RRPS, the newspaper, along with the mayor of our dear community have caused irreparable damage to thousands of people.

Families have already scheduled flights, planned and had taken time off.

No apology can comfort or justify their decision.

This celebration is for the seniors plain and simple.

This celebration is not a “sire-level” power play, it is families and loved ones being able to be there for their children.

As I understand it, RRPS had opposition for the very first graduation.

Certain persons did not want the graduation to be held outside of RR city limits. Thank goodness some of the SCHOOL BOARD members had the insight & foresight to realize the graduating class was so big they had to hold it at a venue larger then the high school gym. So they held it in Johnson Gym.

Then certain SCHOOL BOARD members realized that THE PIT would have to be used just due to the sheer numbers of the graduating class and family and loved ones in attendance.

Thank you, past SCHOOL BOARD members!

This entire crew today along with their think tank could learn a thing or two from you.

“Where have you gone Joe DiMaggio”?

Now we are going backwards and disregarding our seniors and their families, even though this is the largest graduating class in our school’s history. It is much bigger then the first two graduations and one of the biggest in the state this year. The future holds even bigger graduating classes to come.

Other city dwellers in RR, had advised our leaders that the Star Center is “too small”, for a long list of different activities.

So obviously it is too small for this year's graduation.

The decision is wrong, the effort is wasted, the timing was horrendous, the TV feeds are not the same as the real thing.

An important aspect in all of this is that those first SCHOOL BOARD members did not put their positions, interests, ego’s, power or thinking first. They put our children first, the way it should be.

GOD BLESS YOU.

This is a case of “THE GLASS IS HALF FULL OR THE GLASS IS HALF EMPTY”,

I do agree with all the reasons, logic and merits to have the graduation in Rio Rancho.

But…..I also agree with every single reason THE CLASS OF 2007 SHOULD HAVE STAYED AT THE PIT.

Plain and simple, the decision and how it was enforced was WRONG!!

Rio Rancho Pulls Mayor's Credit Card

By Sean Olson
Copyright © 2007 Albuquerque Journal; Journal Staff Writer
Rio Rancho city staff have revoked Mayor Kevin Jackson's city-issued credit card over nearly $8,000 in purchases primarily made at the Santa Ana Star Center for renting out suites, buying food and paying for concert tickets.
"It would be very difficult to determine a public purpose for just handing out tickets," interim city manager Jim Babin said Friday.
City Fiscal Services director Dick Kristof said Friday that Jackson's purchasing card— a city-issued credit card— was canceled May 17 and a new one has been issued to the city. The new card "is not available" to Jackson, Kristof said.
City spokesman Peter Wells said a city audit into the credit card records will continue.
Jackson's attorney, B.J. Crow, said Saturday that he has not seen any details to allegations against Jackson and has only one comment until he does.
"Mr. Jackson is adamant that no city funds have been misspent," Crow said.
Jackson has been out of town and has not returned Journal messages.
In a May 24 letter to his administrative assistant, Jackson claims he did not specifically ask for some of the entertainment charges to be put on the city's card.
"This past week, I was shown a bill for my credit card that had many charges on it that I did not make," the letter states.
His letter recommends changes that better track expenditures for travel and the event center, and requests a monthly report on all expenses from the mayor's budget.
He also said in the letter that he realizes that his administrative assistant is "often put in a position to charge something based on calls from others for tickets, events, etc. especially when others say that the Mayor said so or this is official business."

Memo stated concerns
All of the questionable purchases appeared on the monthly summary of purchasing that Jackson signed.
Babin sent a memo to Jackson on May 18— a day after Jackson's card was canceled— outlining concerns that city personnel had raised over Jackson's purchasing habits throughout the year.
"Again, we are not authorized to expend public funds to purchase tickets in order to give them to other people, including City or State employees, unless there is an official city function being hosted— one which has a defined benefit to the city as a whole," the memo said.
The memo also questioned "various lunches" and one purchase for $11 worth of alcohol. City policy does not allow public funds to be spent on alcohol.
Jackson signed a card holder agreement in March 2006 for the credit card that outlines the rules of using the card.
The agreement states "under no circumstances will I use the Purchasing Card to make personal purchases."
City records show that Jackson on May 24— after his credit card had been revoked— reimbursed the city for about $600 of the $8,000 questioned.
It was to refund $216 worth of Moody Blues tickets, $184 for refreshments at the concert and about $200 worth of food from Sal E Boys Pizza in Rio Rancho and Chili's Grill, according to a memo sent to city staff from Jackson's administrative assistant.
Among other purchases that raised concerns included:

April transactions for about $2,600 worth of tickets and refreshments for concerts, New Mexico Scorpions playoff tickets and a business dinner with new city manager Jim Payne.

March transactions of about $1,100 worth of Santa Ana Star Center purchases.

February transactions of about $1,900 in tickets— including $1,600 worth for Willie Nelson tickets.

November transactions of $1,281 for travel and events center tickets.
Babin said that Jackson has been asked to justify the use of the credit card for those transactions and others but that he has not heard from him on the issue.
"If they were for private purchases, he would have to reimburse us," Babin said.

Check fraud alleged
Jackson is already facing an investigation by a U.S. Inspector General over allegations that he misspent federal grant funds while running his former nonprofit, New Mexico Family Council— Best Choice.
And Family Council officials say that they filed a report with the Rio Rancho Department of Public Safety on Thursday alleging that Jackson committed check fraud.
Family Council officials have also sent a demand letter to Jackson for a refund of at least two trips.
City records show that two trips made by the mayor— one to Fort Meyers, Fla., from Nov. 2-5, and another to Baltimore from March 18-21— were charged to the city credit card.
Family Council officials have said their records show that Jackson was reimbursed by that organization for those trips, as well.
Meanwhile, Jackson has had large increases in his mayor's budget in comparison to former mayors.
All of the Santa Ana Star Center charges fall under the "other costs" portion of the mayor's budget. Traditionally, that portion of the budget has been set at $500 a year.
Jackson's "other costs" budget has been increased to $9,600 through the fiscal year, which ends June 30, using transfers from other line items in the mayor's budget.
The total mayor's budget has increased about $18,000— to $83,000. Of that, about $69,000 has been spent.
Travel costs have gone above originally budgeted levels and an increase of about $8,500 has been added this year.
Jackson, who started the Family Council in 2001 and managed it until three weeks ago, was fired amid allegations of "mismanagement" of federal grant funds, including giving himself a raise from $62,000 to $85,000 without board of directors or grant administrator consent.
The Family Council also cited questionable travel expenses and unauthorized donations to other nonprofits as reasons for the firing.
